Given the beauty standards of the time, it wasn't that great a leap anyway...

I agree! Alternate reality is an amazing fantasy, and you exploit it fantastically. love the build up and characterization.
These types of stories are why I search around these sites in the first place, and it's always a pleasure to come across one like this, especially when it's so well, and carefully, written.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the story! I have a special place for "alternate reality" stories and the changes and the way they happen in your story are A#1.
Would love to see a continuation of other dorm rooms, perhaps a more artifical-based ending transformation (personal preferences...)
