This is a story of a growing girl. A girl growing up - and out.
This story got me hooked on BE stories, and it happened way back in probably the late 90's I would guess? As someone above mentioned, the only bad part of the story is the fact that it ends maybe a bit too soon. Steven Spielberg once said that the best thing that happened to the movie Jaws was the fact the the mechanical shark didn't work. This forced them to go in a different direction than intended, and to make the shark more of an unseen menace than onscreen presence. That way it is always lurking just out of the frame, in the viewers mind at least. In the same way, this story leaves just enough unsaid for the reader to fill in their own details and bring the story to life, while still providing a wonderful basis from which to build. Probably my favorite all time BE story.
Love to see a sequel but great story non the less.
Very good. My complaint is that the ending promises more, and then fails to deliver, apparently, since I don't see a followup story.
Excellent story all around. Great job!
This is perhaps my favorite growth story of all time. I would love to find more work by Byrne, but (he?) doesn't seem have to have writtn much more. My other favorite is The Island, which I don't think is archived here.
My favourite BE story off all time.
I just love the two main characters and the love that grows between them, and the "revelation" scene actually brought tears to my eyes the last time I read it.
The BE seems very natural as well. It doesn't come in huge amounts, but it has quality =)Have been waiting for the sequel for a couple years now...
